The catalyst for “The Dear Leader” short film came about late in 2006 when President Bush was pushing hard for support against the war on terror. I had formed a dark, foreboding vision of the Presidency while covering the White House for Time magazine through some very difficult years. I had watched, up close, how the U.S. government, led by the President, prepped our population for the inevitable: the invasion of Iraq. The main body of still images—”My America”—that I produced during this time period failed to capture the absolute and unequivocal message that our government wanted us to believe. Hence I created “The Dear Leader”.
The film was shot over a two-day period towards the end of 2006.
