The great folks at Blurb passed on a free book to me and so I’m posing this question to you: how should we give it away? Our last photo contest went great, with Dina Goldstein winning a large fine-art print. But we at MJR like to mix it up a bit, so post your suggestions.
“Police expect more than a million people to converge on Center City to watch the Phillies take their noontime victory ride on flatbed trucks from 20th and Market Streets, around City Hall, and down Broad Street to Citizens Bank Park.
The only other time the Phillies won a World Series, in 1980, fans threw boxloads of computer punch cards and shredded paper from office windows onto Broad Street.”
Take your patience pill,” [said Mayor Nutter] “You can be joyous, but you can’t be a jackass.”

The catalyst for “The Dear Leader” short film came about late in 2006 when President Bush was pushing hard for support against the war on terror. I had formed a dark, foreboding vision of the Presidency while covering the White House for Time magazine through some very difficult years. I had watched, up close, how the U.S. government, led by the President, prepped our population for the inevitable: the invasion of Iraq. The main body of still images—”My America”—that I produced during this time period failed to capture the absolute and unequivocal message that our government wanted us to believe. Hence I created “The Dear Leader”.
The film was shot over a two-day period towards the end of 2006.

The Dear Leader

I’m excited to announce the launch of my first Blurb book. Hardcover 13×11 imagegwrap and featuring 49 black & white photographs, this book represents my work across the year 2008. Featured are essays on cowboys in Patagonia, crime in Central America, and the renown Penn Relays track & field competition here in the United States. It’d look tight on your coffee table.
The folks at Blurb liked it so much they’re using it for marketing. So we might do some more contests here on the MJR blog to give away one or two…
