Woops! it seems like we forgot to mention the deadline for the “intimacy” contest. We will allow any photograph submitted before Midnight June 1, 2008. This means if its 11:59 on June 1st you’re in, but if its 12:01 June 2nd your shot will not be submitted and your chance to win Mustafah’s print is gone with the wind. Right now we are only accepting digital submissions but if you have to send a print just let us know and we may be able to work something out. Please send all submissions to Natalie “The Queen of Sugar Plum Pie” our General Director. Her email address is natalie@wearemjr.com. If you put something like “contest” or “print giveaway” in the subject line it will make all of our lives a little easier.
You have three weeks before the deadline which is more than enough time to get something together and already we are surprised by the quality of submissions. So keep em coming and the winner will be announced sometime during the first week of June.

This is hopefully the start of something pretty neat. This May, there’s a Print Giveaway and a bit of a contest to go along with it.
It’s simple. We name the theme, you make the pictures and post the links here on this thread. We’ll go through them and select one winner each month. The winner gets a signed print.
Whether you’re sitting pretty in Toronto or firing away your rolls in Singapore, we’ll get it to you.
To kickstart it all, I’ve dug through my closet and found this 12×18 Matte that’s a personal favorite showing an aspect of the very theme we’re going with for May…
The theme of this month is intimacy.
We want to see people-based photography. Images that shows empathy. Often times, it’s the most difficult thing to achieve an honest emotional intimacy with your subject, so it doesn’t have to be a complete stranger. It can be a brother, a sister, a friend or a co-worker. Get close, get personal, and show us your best. But remember, give dignity to your subject.

Each month, the MJR crew will be visually exploring an idea and presenting the results in a downloadable format. This month’s idea was “major,” a fitting kick-off to this project. In addition to displaying our own work, we’ll be using this as a vehicle to get to know our readers. Starting with the next tribute, we will be holding a contest inviting everyone to share their takes on topics with us, and the submission the absolutely nails it will receive a big, beautiful print and a feature on the blog. Details will be posted on Monday.
